You Are the Quarry is the seventh studio album by English alternative rock singer Morrissey. It was released on 17 May 2004 by record label Attack, and was his first album in seven years following 1997's Maladjusted. The first single released to promote the album was "Irish Blood, English Heart", released on 10 May 2004 and reaching No. 3 in the UK Singles Chart. It also received significant airplay in the US, going to number 36 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart

You Are the Quarry was released in 2004, bringing to an end Morrissey’s sparse wilderness years. It was met with critical acclaim and is seen as a return to form for a singer who some thought had lost his way in the music industry. In the album title, ‘Quarry’ means ‘target or prey’. The sleeve art is designed to make it look like the album title is being addressed to Morrissey. You Are the Quarry Q&A.

At his core, Morrissey has always been conservative - not in his politics, of course, but in how he romanticizes the past and plays by the rules of a different time.

You Are the Quarry producer, the late Jerry Finn, crafts the sonic approximation of a business card, clean and professional. Aside from a few interesting touches, like the flute and sonar pings of I’m Not Sorry, Finn creates too much space for Morrissey to shine. You Are the Quarry proved to be a massively successful one for our pope of mope, every single released from it made the top 10 in the UK. This success would kick off an unexpected (but certainly not unwelcome) renaissance for Morrissey, a time that would find him putting out some of his best solo work (along with fighting off Smiths reunions of course) and taking to the stage as an aged bachelor, somehow just as idiosyncratically sexy as he was when he was an uncouth youth.

This is Morrissey, bequiffed scourge of dance music and erstwhile hanger of DJs, who topped the charts during 1988's acid house Summer of Love with an album called Viva Hate. Any nod in the direction of urban music constitutes a dramatic change in outlook. What else, you wonder, is the revitalised Smiths frontman capable of? Rapping? A patois-heavy ragga duet with Beenie Man? His own range of bling-bling sportswear? You are jolted from such reveries by the song's lyrics. But you can't make You Are the Quarry a staggering return to form just by wishing hard. There are a couple of great songs, a handful of beautifully turned lines and not much else: a formula that recalls not the glory days of the Smiths, but the 1990s albums that sent Morrissey hurtling into oblivion in the first place.

This album becomes more and more amazing the oftener I hear it - I am enchanted and happy-saddened by 'I'm Not Sorry' and This album becomes more and more amazing the oftener I hear it - I am enchanted and happy-saddened by 'I'm Not Sorry' and 'America is Not The World' - there is a beautiful sweep and bend in Morrissey's.

Genre: Alternative Rock. Believe or not, Morrissey grabbed a machine gun and here he is, determined to shoot the hypothetical quarry with his best album in many, many years, so strong and so assertive that it will deprive you from your safety. 90. The best Morrissey solo album (and better than half of The Smiths' discography).

Morrissey's first new album since the nineties is a triumph. Powered by a formidable quartet, the twin guitars spit fire that matches every wounded issue Morrissey tears into. Never one to mince words, he comes out swinging, taking America to task and then turning his attention on his homeland with the blistering "Irish Blood, English Heart. You Are the Quarry is so effective because it's less an overt rallying cry than a heartfelt plea for the world to make sense to him again. Elsewhere, relationships are given such a uniquely vibrant vantage point as to render any other.
