William Alonzo Anderson (12 September 1916 – 29 April 1981), known as Cat Anderson, was an American jazz trumpeter best known for his long period playing with Duke Ellington's orchestra, and for his extremely wide range (more than five octaves), especially his playing in the higher registers. You Go to My Head-110. Artists: Charlie Kohlhase. Sweet Georgia Brown-14.
Anderson mostly used Duke Ellington sidemen (including either Quentin Jackson or Buster Cooper on trombone, the underrated Russell Procope on alto and clarinet, tenorman Paul Gonsalves on the later date, bassist Jimmy Woode on the earlier session, drummer Sam Woodyard and French musicians in the remaining spots); the great stride pianist Joe Turner (an expatriate) guests on three selections.
