Sleaford Mods - English Tapas album flac
The UK's Sleaford Mods return with a slightly tweaked version of their idiosyncratic style on English Tapas.
English cuisine is hardly the horror show that it was in the 1970s-the British Isles are no longer a Michelin Star free zone-but the title of Sleaford Mods ’ new album still raises a smile of recognition. But vocalist Jason Williamson and producer Andrew Fearn still keep their gaze fixed in the direction of the discount aisle, bards of a Great Britain that is not in fact great, but sloppy, shallow, self-important, and wholly lacking in taste. ENGLiSH TAPAS contains a few fleeting references to the state we are in, like nods to Brexit in Cuddly and Dull. A breathless rockabilly lurch, titled Carlton Touts, finds Williamson mock-mourning the dislodged elites that his lyrics once vilified: Bring back the neolibs, I’m sorry/I didn’t fucking mean to pray for anarch-eh!
Sleaford Mods have made a name for themselves as the stripped-back sound of austerity Britain. Over minimal laptop beats courtesy of Andrew Fearn, lead agitator Jason Williamson has marked out his turf as part Mark E Smith of cult post-punkers The Fall and part foul-mouthed John Betjeman in the body of a This Is England extra. English Tapas’ is the Nottingham duo’s first album on the Rough Trade label, named after they spotted the phrase on a pub menu advertising a platter of chips, a scotch egg, a mini pork pie and some pickle. It says everything about this f king place, said Williamson. It’s comedy, it’s make-do, it’s ignorant and above all, it’s s t. British s tness finds itself at the centre of this 11-track collection, from the takedown of Sir Philip Green, his super-yacht and disregard for workers on ‘BHS’ to sneering mentions of Snapchat, selfies and Superdry on ‘Snout’.

Album · 2017 · 12 Songs. Dissatisfied with 2016’s vitriolic . EP, Sleaford Mods motormouth Jason Williamson resolved to move on from spontaneous ranting on this LP. Andrew Fearn’s austere beats still hammer away relentlessly, but hooks have crept into their sardonic dispatches from Brexit Britain ( Army Nights, Snout ), and a more pensive tone suits Williamson as he skewers corporate greed on . I Feel So Wrong even evokes a no-budget Massive Attack with simmering paranoia and a sung-sung!-chorus. English Tapas Sleaford Mods.
The first Sleaford Mods album to have emerged since the EU referendum in June 2016 inevitably comes freighted with a certain expectation. Cometh the hour, cometh the men – Brexit clearly has the potential to be for Sleaford Mods what pre-millennial tension was to Radiohead. Q&A JASON WILLIAMSON Why English Tapas? Andrew told us this story about how he walked into this pub and on the menu board it said English Tapas. It consisted of half a scotch egg, a cup of chips, a bit of pickle. It just rang true about how English culture can try and extract these beautiful things from other places, and bastardise them, like the Findus microwave pizza or something. We thought, that’s it. Was Brexit a tempting subject? I held off.
Every song here has at least one lyric that strikes either comically, ferociously, or as an outright address to the nation. The album is an insight into reality for those who have lived it. The dreams over, the dawning realisation that things are has become something to deal with so make things more bearable, bob your head and chant along with the Mods. They are here to save yo. YOU FAT BASTARDS YOU FAT BASTARDS.
