John Butler Trio - John Butler album flac
Back to the top. John Butler Trio.
I really like the Rothbury Music Festival 2009 version and the Max Sessions versions too.
The John Butler Trio are an Australian roots/rock band led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler, an APRA and ARIA-award-winning musician. They formed in Fremantle in 1998 with Jason McGann on drums and Gavin Shoesmith on bass. By 2009, the trio consisted of Butler with Byron Luiters on bass and Nicky Bomba on drums and percussion, the latter being replaced by Grant Gerathy in 2013.

The John Butler Trio is an eclectic roots/jam band from Australia led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler. They have independently released five studio albums, the last three of which debuted at in Australia, and have had eight Top 40 singles. Having developed a great reputation as a live act, the band have also released three live albums. Apart from their little-known debut album, all of their releases have been on Jarrah Records, co-owned by Butler and The Waifs. John Butler was born on April 1, 1975 in Torrance, California, to an Australian father and American mother.
The album was produced by the John Butler Trio and Shaun O'Callaghan. The cover concept was designed by John Butler with Matt and Iowana at Insomnia Design. There were guest appearances by: Paul Boon - didgeridoo. In the United States it was released on ATO Records, with a few more tracks than the Australian CD - partly because it was the first John Butler Trio album released in the United States. So says John Butler, the singer, songwriter and activist who is Australia’s most acclaimed and successful independent musician. I steer my career with my heart, says the American born guitarist who resides in remote Western Australia. Creativity can take many forms. Two other sessions, one with a different producer and the Trio, and another one on my own, highlighted the need for a new approach. Ultimately, it was producer Jan Skubiszewski who helped John bring things into focus. It was uncharted territory, he muses. Summing up the album, Butler states: What you’re hearing is the destination – but getting here felt like an odyssey; a rite of passage that I couldn’t go around, couldn’t go over, and couldn’t go under. I had to go through it. Asked how HOME compares to his previous work, he explains: It’s just evolution; something I’ve been thinking about and trying to create for years.

John Butler is an incredibly raw, energetic and intelligent display of a rising talent that would soon reach the forefront of Australian folk music. His unique, finger-picking playing style (a 12 string guitar with the high G string removed) is the main attraction here, and it doesn’t disappoint. A rich mixture of styles including eastern, western, celtic and blues, his compositions are original, skilful and absolutely gorgeous. The only reason this hasn’t reached a full 5/5. The album is called John Butler, the band is called The John Butler Trio, and to anyone looking at this without prior knowledge of the band, it would seem that there is only one man running the show. The other personnel may as well be session musicians for all the emphasis that’s put on them. Arrogance ultimately damages the overall integrity of the album.
