It is almost impossible to listen to this album without a sense of heartbreak. At the time it was recorded, the country of Rwanda seemed at peace, and an album like this that featured the musical styles of all three peoples who lived there - the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twi - fit the mood of national pride and cooperation. A song like the uplifting "Rubijizuko," which exhorted listeners to "put all of your abilities and power in building the country," seemed to be an anthem for a bright and inevitable future
