My Boyfriend's Back" has been the subject of several notable cover versions. Rival girl groups the Chiffons and Martha and the Vandellas recorded covers shortly after the Angels' original release. In 1983, Melissa Manchester released a faithful cover version as a single that reached number 33 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The song was parodied by Bob Ricci on his debut album Get a Life as "My Girlfriend's Back". The song is also referenced briefly in The Dire Straits song "Romeo and Juliet".

Bette Bright and the Illuminations: Hello, I Am Your Heart, All Girls Lie. Posted on May 7, 2014 by stsinger. Released in February of 1980, this was Bette’s third solo single, preceded by ‘My Boyfriend’s Back’ (1978), and ‘Captain of Your Ship‘ (1979. It was her highest charting single, reaching in the UK in March of 1980. In 1981 the single would appear on Bette’s Korova LP ‘Rhythm Breaks the Ic. I’ve had a copy of this single in my collection for some 25 years now and embarrassed to say I never caught on that it had a wrap-around cover. I only discovered this when scanning the front and back for today’s entry  . This is a cover of a Prince song, off of his third studio album, 1980’s ‘Dirty Mind. What woman artist of the 80s HASN’T Prince worked with or touched in some way? Professionally, I mean.

Their single debut, a cover of "My Boyfriend's Back" in 1978, was followed by another cover, "Captain of Your Ship", which became a minor airplay hit. Bright's third single, "Hello, I Am Your Heart", dropped the Illuminations from the billing, and was her only chart hit. Issued in February 1980, the track entered the UK Singles Chart and spent a week at. Her backing band on this album - still called The Illuminations - was completely different from the group on her earlier singles, and had a similar line-up to Clive Langer & the Boxes: Clive Langer (guitar/sitar), Ian Broudie (lead guitar), James Eller (bass); Jo Allen (drums); and Ben Barson, brother of Madness keyboardist Mike Barson (keyboards). Martin Hughes subbed for Allen on two cuts; Clive Langer & The Boxes consisted of Langer, Eller, Barson and Hughes. The album was produced by Clanger/Winstanley.

After Deaf School disbanded, Bright went solo with her backing band, The Illuminations. Bright (using her real name, Anne Martin) spent a while as singer of Dutch band Gruppo Sportivo, and she also appeared in Malcolm McLaren's Sex Pistols film, "The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. In 1982 she married Madness singer Suggs and retired to private life. She did appear in a video to accompany Madness' "One Better Day" single, playing the part of a homeless person in 1984. In 1988, she joined her fellow Deaf School members for a reunion and a live album
