The Family is a 1985 album released on Prince's Paisley Park Records label by the band of the same name. The album consists of eight Minneapolis sound tracks but with a funk-jazz slant. Two of the tracks are instrumentals, and three are ballads; many feature string arrangements by Clare Fischer, marking the beginning of Prince's longstanding association with the Michigan-born composer-arranger

It's an album of pictures of the United States: the cities, the special places and the people. Oh, this is my father. Alexandra: What's her name? Richard: Ellen. Robbie: Where does she live? Richard: With a family in the Bronx. Robbie: Oh, that's not too far from here! Richard: Take it easy, Robbie. Alexandra: Thank you. I can only stay a few minutes. Ellen: Have some iced tea. Alexandra: Thanks, Mrs. Stewart.

Family Album, USA. Episode 1 "46 Linden Street" Act 3. Philip: And give her a teaspoon of the medicine after every meal. Ellen: How are you? Philip: I’m tired and hungry. Richard: Alexandra’s a high-school exchange student from Greece. Robbie: Oh, that’s not too far from here! Richard: Take it easy, Robbie.

Mainly The Family Cat would place several singles on the UK Indie Chart including "Steamroller". They also grabbed headlines by naming one of their songs "Bring Me The Head of Michael Portillo". Their music was melodic and radio friendly, but in spite of critical acclaim the band were unable to reach the heights of Britpop acts Oasis and Blur. The Family Cat were a British independent band, formed in Stoke Newington, London in 1988. Three members were originally from Cornwall, one from Plymouth and one from Southampton. The band played live for five years and recorded three albums, the mini-album Tell 'em We're Surfin', released on South London independent label Bad Girl Records, and its full-length follow-ups, Furthest From The Sun and Magic Happens, released by Dedicated.
