In 1983, once again released on Spiderleg Records, Subhuman issued their debut, studio album The Day The Country Died. Now considered a classic and quintessential release of the anarcho-punk genre, the record has its thematic roots in George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, epitomised on the single Big Brother. will go and find out the name and follow up!). I am biased, but The Subhumans blew it away. It has been 20 years since I last saw Dick Lucas (lead singer) at a gig (Citizen fish in Glastonbury town UK) and he doesn't seem to have lost any of his energy. In addition to belting their stuff out to perfection, the band was very approachable and stayed to talk to folks after they played.

Great one from the new album Crisis Point. Subhumans will be appearing in Morecambe on Friday May 22nd 2020. uk on the ticket pages. We look forward to welcoming the band to this amazing festival.

A grungy-looking quartet of punkers (check out the photos on the back cover of this album), Subhumans were a radical British punk group in the vein of the Clash and Conflict, though their sound was different in a couple of ways than both those acts. Like the Clash, Subhumans experimented with ska and reggae beats, but Subhumans' music was a bit more simplistic and their themes almost always straightforward. On Worlds Apart, Subhumans sing about "Apathy," "Businessmen," and "Heads of State," all objects of scorn for them.

The major news is that a new album from Vancouver, Canada's Subhumans will be released via the label on September 12th. The 14 track record will be titled New Dark Age Parade. Not to be confused with the similarly named UK act, the Subhumans were active from 1978 to 1982, having reformed in 2005. In that span bassist Gerry Hannah notably spent 5 years in prison for his part in the bombing of a Litton Systems plant in Ontario where guidance systems for Boeing cruise missiles were manufactured. The band features original members Hannah, vocalist Brian Goble and guitarist Mike Graham.

Although possibly not the best place for someone to get into the Subhumans (what with only 4 songs and such), it is definitely quality punk music for people already interested in the genre and the band. I also forgot to mention that unlike those awful, awful bands like the Sex Pistols, Subhumans were a very creative group of punks. Relying very little (if at all) on pure shock value and the whole punk fashion craze, they put out records full of sweet riffs, thought provoking lyrics and otherwise ass-kicking music.
