A new album by Skeldos will be released in some weeks. Vo. Nothingness, by This Is Darkness.
Skeldos is on the way with the wind.
Ilgės is his third full length solo release. While his debut album, Įspaudai, was released on the Lithuanian label Terror, his last two solo releases, as well as his brilliant collaboration, Aviliai with fellow Lithuanian ambient/drone artist Daina Dieva, have all been independently released. Skeldos focuses on a form of drone/dark ambient which at times can be incredibly relaxing and calm. But it can move into varied territories with little awareness from the listener
The album was inspired by a poem by the Lithuanian writer Antanas Škėma titled A Lie, which talks about the hope that there is something important beyond the desolate routine. Two extended pieces awash in melancholy and longing revolve around a silent question: perhaps that which is crucial is really nearby? Ilgės was recorded in 2015-2018 using acoustic instruments (accordion, Lithuanian zither, guitar) as primary sound sources, with their imperfect creaks and resonant echoes intended to make the vast sonic horizons sound close.
The collaborative album featured here, Aviliai (trans. Hives), is from two native composers in Daina Dieva and Skeldos. This duo is otherwise known for their passion for drone ambient sounds, hums, and noises. Although Daina Dieva uses her voice to enchant the album’s atmosphere with bright Lithuanian archaic visions, its primary role is as a fantastic instrument for raising up an emotive musical climax.
