Guidance Notes for Members

Playing Rights

Members are not permitted to play on Sundays unless they have an official handicap.

Six-Day Members may play Monday to Saturdays. They may also play on Sundays at a Green Fee of £7.00 at the following times: 1st October to 31st march after 1pm; 1st April to 30th September after 5pm.

Five-Day Members may play Monday to Fridays. They may also play at a Green Fee of £7.00 at the following times: Saturdays , and after 5pm on Sundays between 1st April and 30th September.

Five- and Six-Day Members may only play in those Club competitions as laid down by Committee, and may introduce Guests only on those days valid to their membership.

Junior Members may play at such times as stipulated by the Committee. They may not introduce Guests on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays. On the course, Junior Members are expected to give way to Adult Members at all times unless otherwise indicated.

Adult Members may, where membership permits, introduce up to three Guests per time at the Guest Green Fee rate on weekdays and pm Saturdays only, with no restriction on the number of times they may do so. At other weekend times, and on Bank Holidays, only one Guest per Member may be introduced at any one time.

On the Course

The Captain has priority on the course at all times.

The Chairman of Competitions has priority on the tees on Competition days.

White markers/plates are for men's official competitions.
Yellow markers are for men's general play.
Red markers/plates are for ladies general play and competitions. Red markers are also for the Juniors' general play.

Starting general play: Players approaching the 9th Green must alternate on the 1st/10th Tee with players waiting to start their round.

Cutting-in at any hole is forbidden.

On Sundays, no play is permitted before 08.00

Official Club Competitions have priority on the course at all times.

Official Club matches/Society bookings: The designated starting Tees are closed until all match groups have teed off.

Practicing/Course care

A practice area and bunker is provided to the right of the 2nd hole and there is a driving net adjacent to the 1st/10th Tee.

Practice putting on or chipping to any Green, and practicing in course bunkers is forbidden.

Repair pitch marks, Replace divots, Rake bunkers, Keep to prepared footpaths, Observe course signs and directions.

Local rules

1. The boundaries of the course are as defined by:

a. The line of white posts behind the 1st/10th and 7th/16th greens;
b. The line of white posts and, beyond them, the canal to the right of the 2nd/11th holes;
c. The canal to the right of the 3rd/12th from the tee to the BLUE navigation post short of the first lay-by, and the road surface beyond that post;
d. Beyond the top level of the sea wall;
e. The netting and post-and-rail fencing short-left of the 2nd/11th green;
f.The netting around the car park.

2. The car park, clubhouse/trolley shed building and its hard surface surrounds.

3. Beyond the clubhouse, car park and road when playing the 2nd/11th and 9th/18th holes.

4. The tractor shed, machinery and materials stored around it, as marked.

5. The practice net area adjacent to the 1st/10th tee.

Obstructions

The following are immovable obstructions (Rule 24-2 applies):
i) All bridges and seats, and the shelter on the 7th/16th hole;
ii) Stand-pipes, sprinkler heads and distance markers;
iii) Notice boards and tee boxes/makers;
iv) Stone and shell paths, and the inbounds section of the road;
v) The concrete structures at the extreme ends of the gully crossing the 3rd/12th and 4th/13th holes;
vi)Fences guarding the 7th/16th and 9th/18th tees and practicing putting green - NB when taking relief the play must determine the nearest point without crossing over, through or under the obstruction;
vii) The post-and-rail fence alongside the 13th tee.

Sprinkler Heads

See above: In additions, if a ball lies off the putting green but not in a hazard, and is within two club lengths of a sprinkler head intervening on the line of play between ball and hole, it may be lifted, cleaned and dropped at the nearest point of relief that is not nearer the hole and not in a hazard or on a putting green.

Water Hazards

Water hazards are defined to their extent by yellow maker posts, and lateral water hazards by red maker posts (Rule 26 applies).

Overhead Wires:

If a ball hits the overhead wires when playing the 2nd/11th or 3rd/12th holes, another ball must be played, without penalty, in accordance with Rule 20-5.

Stones in Bunkers:

Are movable obstructions (Rule 24-1 applies).

Ground under Repair:

A ball lying in an area marked Ground Under Repair must be lifted and dropped in accordance with Rule 25-1. Temporary greens when not in play, tractor runts, draining grips and drought cracks through the green are deemed to be G.U.R.
